and now i understand where she's coming from. she's doing great here. she's having the time of her life. she's met people and although they turn out to be douchebags, they're still more receptive to chicks like me/her. when it comes to dating and all that. because we're exotic. we're different. they've got yellow fever. and i like that racism is not all that obvious here. because there are so many ABCs ard, and all the international students, from Korea and Japan all.
one thing that bugs me is the general knowledge of the locals. it sucks. they know nothing about the world other than their opinions on America. kinda annoying because they expect us to be all "OMG OSAMA DIED!" but we're like "okay... what do you want me to do?" and they think it's a huge deal, but it isnt. because there'll be people who'll take the place of Osama, or of Hitler. only normal for them to want to retaliate.
such narrow minded fools. thinking getting rid of one person would solve everything. Obama's stressing that it'll just give the people a sense of ease. which it does. it's a great deal. but it's not the end. and they like to think it is. their mentality focuses on the one side of the story and it stays there. they refuse to look at it from different angles. very sad indeed.
but other than that. the place here is great. it is currently 4am and i'm still up, listening to the people upstairs stomp ard and laugh and talk. walls are incredibly thin here. (so are the ceilings) but this is just an on campus apartment. housing is so freaking cheap here. we passed by nice bungalows and we go "wow that's so big and pretty" and they go "yeah. but it's expensive as hell" and we're like "oh? how much?" and they go "$350 grand. fucking expensive" WTF. you cant even buy HDB flat with that price. it's pathetic how we drool at the sight of these houses. cars are damn cheap too. gas/petrol, still not as high as SG.
the weather! started out gloomy. then like aircon then super sunny, then rainy all or a sudden. erratic weather FTW! and it's so much easier to get warm than cool down. i mean cmon, natural heat element (fire, in case you havent figured that out). whereas you have to rely on electricity for aircon. fire = wood from trees outside the house, stones and twigs to make spark, NATURAL.
then there's the food. DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED. too late. it's so gooood. there's like Ted's Hotdogs, which does chargrilled (literally charcoal fire) hotdogs that're long. their fries come in a paper bag, with a tiny plastic holder at the base, that barely even holds the fries. it does allow it to stand though. then there's Jim's steakhouse. OMFG their subs are the bomb. it comes in 8" and instead of wrapping it up like subway does, it's just plobbed onto the plate, with the bread, flat and you cant even pick the sub up, because it's so full of meat and veg and sauce you cant join it together. and they have free flow of drinks, diet and all, and nice fries. (to be fair, everywhere has good fries)
then there's iHop, great all day breakfast place. with large portions of hashbrowns (rosti style) and eggs (scrambled/over easy, your choice), bacon or sausage. and then comes the breakfast part. Pancakes or French Toast. and you choose the flavour i.e. strawberry banana, blueberry, apple and cinnamon, original etc.) and there's also Denny's which is great for Breakfast as well.
there's also Tim Hortons, which my sis keeps complaining about, because it's from Canada, and she claims no one likes Tims because they're cheap and not as nice compared to Starbucks, but i refuse to give in to starbucks because i'm not a huge fan and because i can get it easily in SG, so dont waste my time while i'm on vacation here. Tim hortons sells bagels and fritters and doughnuts and muffins and cafe drinks. wide variety compared to starbucks imo.
the grocery stores, Wegmans. omg where do i even begin. so fucking big and they have a food area, and the frozen food selection is massive. the ice cream is cheap. you can get gardening stuff there. like carrefour, but BIGGERRRR. and more VARIETY. the Cereals you've never heard of. they sell Bagels like bread in the plastic bags and with the tags on them. they have a whole bakery section, where you'll be able to see people dirty icing cakes. everything's fresh. only bummer, not much fruits. but who cares? i'll live on frozen broccoli with honey BBQ sauce.
ALCOHOL IS CHEAP. period. they drink beer macam drinking water.
partying is free for chicks and since i'm 21 and above, dont even have to worry about crosses on my hands, meaning i can drink as much as i want. go to clubs and dont even spend a cent. because it's so cheap the guys will just buy for us. haha.
and the best thing? they dont think i'm fat. or care if my face is round or if i put on some more weight. because i'm skinny here. and it feels good, to not have to hear insults. which brings me to the reason i'm even writing this entry. because my one pet peeve is when someone talks about my weight.
why do people even talk about weight? do i look like i have a huge ego and in order for you to bring it down, you find an absolute necessity to mock me? jokes aside, what makes you think i'm so secure about myself that mocking me is fine? that it wont affect me? that it's just normal for the slim, or asshole fat ones, to just talk about me like that? do you really think i'm not riddled with insecurities? if the one thing that makes me happy is eating, then why cant i? why do people have to say hurtful things like you'll get fat, you're fat, still eating? i mean fuck you, i'm on a fucking vacation i'll do whatever the fuck i want. people buy clothes, i eat.
i understand the craft behind food and i know the terms, i know the ingredients. (omg their tv shows. cupcake wars, random cake shows, bbq shows, all shows on the food channel) i want to try the things that are unavailable in sg. i dont give a shit about sg food. because right now, all i'm thinking is how lucky sis is to be able to live here and how much i dont want to leave this place. they teased her for not being able to eat sg food. if i were her, i'll be like "fuck you, the food here is so much better"
stupid stupid people. hate pots calling kettles black. and wah lau. i hardly buy things for myself, still need to buy things for people. HURRRR. hate that feeling.
i didnt know back then. i was ignorant and oblivious. but now i do. and i'm going to go to her school tmr, that's just a street away, to get tim hortons for breakfast. whatever the weather. i'm walking there at 10 - 11am tmr. and Florida next week. then back to fucking reality. huge ass sigh.
